    Dr. Fei He is an Associate Professor (tenure-track), Principal Investigator (PI), and the director of the Intelligent Brain-Computer Interface Laboratory (iBCI Lab) at the School of Biomedical Engineering, ShanghaiTech University. He earned dual bachelor’s degrees in Information Engineering and Bioinformatics from Zhejiang University, and a Ph.D. from the Shanghai Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics, Chinese Academy of Sciences. From 2016 to 2021, he developed ultra-flexible neural interfaces at the University of Texas at Austin and Rice University. In 2021, he founded the Brain–Computer Interface and Brain Imaging Lab at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, focusing on implantable neural electrodes and neuroimaging technologies for neuroscience research, brain disorder studies, and brain–computer interaction. He joined ShanghaiTech in 2026. To date, he has published over 60 papers in top journals including Science Advances, Nature Biomedical Engineering, Nature Communications, Biomaterials, ACS Nano, Advanced Science, and Laser & Photonics Reviews. He has delivered invited talks at 20+ international academic conferences and holds 17 pending invention patents.

    The Intelligent Brain-Computer Interface Laboratory (iBCI Lab) is dedicated to the development and application of ultraflexible neural electrodes, advanced neuroimaging technologies, and AI algorithms for the construction of high-performance neural interfaces. The laboratory undertakes cutting-edge research in fundamental neuroscience, bioelectronic diagnostics and therapeutics, as well as brain-computer integration and interaction. It engages in collaborations with leading universities, research institutes, hospitals, and enterprises both at home and abroad, providing ample opportunities for external exchanges. Apart from striving for breakthroughs in frontier disruptive technologies, the laboratory is actively promoting the translation of its research findings into clinical and industrial applications. For example, it is collaborating with national laboratories, Huashan Hospital, and other institutions to advance the translational application of invasive brain-computer interfaces, facilitating the interconnection and integration of silicon-based and carbon-based life systems, and propelling technological transformation and upgrading in the information industry.
